A smoke detector is a device that has smoke sensors.

mm in diameter. This device can sense smoke by either optical (photoelectric) and/or
by physical process (ionization).

Types
of Smoke Detectors
Ionization and photoelectric are the two major types
of smoke detectors. An ionization smoke detector is usually more responsive to
flaming fires. It uses radioactive material to ionize the air. This radioactive
material is placed between two electrically charged plates, which ionize the air
and create a current flow between the plates. A photoelectric smoke detector
contains a source of infrared, ultraviolet (UV) or visible light, a
photoelectric receiver, and a lens. This type of detector is usually more
responsive to blazing fires.

Technology in Smoke Detectors
Kidde recently introduced their latest intelligent
wireless technology along with a new smartphone notification system. Using their
proprietary technology, these latest smoke alarms offer wireless
interconnection, which allows them to communicate with each other without the need
for hard wiring or Wi-Fi connection. The inbuilt color-coded Light-Emitting Diode
LED) lights and high-quality voice alerts communicate the type of hazard in
case of an alarm.
