Rimless toilets, as the name suggests, offer
simplicity and convenience owing to the absence of the rim. The introduction of
rimless toilets in the global toilet market is one of the few milestones in the
market. From a visual point of view, a rimless toilet is similar to a
conventional toilet that features a bowl, a cistern, and a seat. However, the major
difference between the two toilet designs, which is visible on a closer look,
is the absence of a rim in the rimless variant. The rim is nothing but an
extended contour along the perimeter of the bowl to ensure even distribution of
water to rinse the toilet bowl after its use. Hygiene is the main reason that
prompted a design upgrade in the form of rimless fixtures. Due to the
difficulty in cleaning it, the underside of the rim becomes a breeding ground
for disease-causing bacteria, thus facilitating the multiplication and spread
of germs through physical contact.
